Making a v2 of a drawing

Issue the set, change the design, and re-issue it as the next revision — with clouds round what changed.

Video lesson

The recording for this lesson is being made

Until it lands, the steps below are the whole lesson — about 2 min 30 of video, written out. Nothing is being held back for the video.

  1. Issue the first set

Open the Report view and press Issue the drawing set. ix builds the same PDF set the download builds, keeps it on the server as Rev 0 with today's date, and the share link offers it for download. That frozen set is what you sent; the share link itself keeps showing the live design.

  2. Change the design

Go back to the Floorplan and make the changes: move a device, add a run, take something out. Nothing about the issued set changes while you work. It stays exactly as it was sent.

  3. Check the clouds

Back in the Report view, every sheet clouds what was added, moved or changed since the last issue, with the revision number beside each cloud, and lists what was removed. Untick Revision clouds to hide them on this view and in the set you build. Once two issues exist, Against lets you compare with an earlier one instead. Up to the last 5 issues keep enough to compare against.

  4. Say what changed

Type a line in the What changed box beside the button, for example "Relocated the lobby AP per client walk-through". It goes into the revision table on every title block. Leave it empty and ix writes the line for you from the changes it found, such as "AP2 moved, 1 run removed".

  5. Re-issue

Press Re-issue the drawing set. The new set becomes the next revision (Rev 1, then Rev 2…) with its own date and table row, the client's link serves it, and the clouds start again from it.

  6. Earlier sets

Under the buttons, Issued sets lists each kept set, Rev, date and description, with a Download link for each. The last 5 issued sets are kept, and the client's link lists the same ones, so "what did we send on the 16th" always has an answer.
