Placing and editing devices

The catalogue, the properties panel, and changing your mind about a product.

Video lesson

The recording for this lesson is being made

Until it lands, the steps below are the whole lesson — about 3 min 10 of video, written out. Nothing is being held back for the video.

  1. Pick from the catalogue

Add Devices opens it. Eleven system groups — Audio, Video & Control, Surveillance, Security, Access Control, Lighting, Shades & Climate, Networking, Infrastructure, Architecture and Solar — each colour-coded, so a glance at the plan tells you which system a symbol belongs to.

  2. Place, then keep placing

Click the canvas to drop the selected item. The tool stays armed, so a run of twelve downlights is twelve clicks, not twelve trips to the catalogue.

  3. Select it to see what it is

Click a placed device and the properties panel docks on the right: its designator, its position, its mounting height, its specification, and the rough-in box size where that applies.

  4. Replace without redrawing

The properties panel offers a Replace picker narrowed to genuinely comparable products rather than the whole catalogue, so swapping a 6.5" in-ceiling for a different 6.5" in-ceiling is two clicks and keeps the position, the designator and the run.

  5. Edit several at once

Marquee-select or shift-click a group and the bulk panel replaces the properties panel. What it offers is what genuinely applies to everything you picked.

  6. Designators

Devices are numbered per system automatically, and those designators are what the schedules, the topology sheet and the pictorial diagram all refer to. Rename one and the rename follows it everywhere.
